A. Types of Data Collected

1. Location Data (GPS)

• Purpose: To verify the exact location where the vehicle inspection took place. This location data (latitude/longitude and address) is stamped onto the photos and included in the generated PDF report to serve as proof for rental companies or insurance claims.
• Storage: Location data is stored locally in the app's database on your device. We do not track your movements or share your location with third parties.

2. Camera and Photos

• Purpose: To capture images and videos of the vehicle's condition (e.g., scratches, fuel level, mileage).
• Feature: The app also uses the camera for the "Ghost Mode" feature (overlaying previous photos) and for scanning license plates via OCR (Optical Character Recognition).
• Storage: Photos and videos are saved locally on your device's internal storage.

3. Files and Documents

• Purpose: To generate PDF reports and create ZIP backups of your rental history.
• Storage: These files are generated and stored locally. You may choose to export or share them via external apps (e.g., Email, WhatsApp).

B. Third-Party Services

While the app functions offline, we use specific Google services to enhance functionality:

• Google ML Kit: We use Google's Machine Learning Kit for the Text Recognition (OCR) feature to scan license plates. The processing of images for text recognition happens on-device and is not sent to Google servers.
• Google Play Services: Used for location accuracy (FusedLocationProvider).

Vehicle Information (VIN Decoding)

• Purpose: To simplify the rental creation process, the app allows you to scan or enter a Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).
• Data Transmission: If you use the "Decode VIN" feature, the app sends the VIN number to a third-party public database (e.g., NHTSA) via the internet solely to retrieve vehicle specifications (Make, Model, Year, Engine).
• No User Tracking: This query is anonymous and contains no personal user data, only the vehicle identifier. If your device is offline, the app uses a local fallback database.

2. Data Storage and Retention

Local Storage: All data entered into CarRentPal (rental details, personal information, photos, signatures) is stored in a local SQLite database on your device.

Data Retention: Since we do not host a central server, we do not retain your data. You have full control over your data. If you uninstall the application, all data stored within the app's private storage will be permanently deleted (unless you have created a backup ZIP file or saved PDF reports to a shared folder).

3. Data Sharing

We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer your Personally Identifiable Information to outside parties.

User-Initiated Sharing: The app allows you to share generated PDF reports or ZIP backups via other applications installed on your device (e.g., email clients, messaging apps). Once you share a file, that data is subject to the privacy policy of the receiving application.

4. Security

We value your trust in providing us your Personal Information. Since the data is stored locally on your device, the security of your data relies heavily on the security of your mobile device. We recommend using a device password or biometric lock to prevent unauthorized access to your rental records.

5. Children’s Privacy

Our Service does not address anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13. As this is a car rental utility tool, it is intended for use by individuals who are of legal driving age (typically 18+).
